...in queste settimane ho cominciato a lavorare su un nuovo progetto per la
IMAGE.
Si tratta di una maxiserie di genere supereroistico, scritta da
JOE CASEY e disegnata da me.
Questo progetto ancora TOP SECRET, è senza dubbio uno dei lavori più complessi che mi sia mai capitato di affrontare.
Ho pensato per questo che in queste settimane che precedono l'annuncio della sua uscita, anzichè postare tavole e sketches (dannata segretezza!!!) di tenere un diario della mio lavoro preliminare alla serie.
La trama si svolge su diverse linee narrative e affonda le sue radici nel fumetto supereroistico americano, dalle sue origini alla sua attuale forma.
Sia narrativamente che visivamente.
A un lavoro così non si arriva impreparati, ho deciso di mettermi a studiare in maniera da affrontare nei migliori di modi questo progetto.
Da dove iniziare?
Anzichè in maniera cronologica ho preferito cominciare con quella che è indiscutibilmente un opera seminale nel mondo del fumetto americano (e non solo) e che è senza alcun dubbio una delle più complesse (oltre che delle più dibattute soprattutto in questo momento).
La mia scelta è dovuta a diverse ragioni, un pò perchè ho conosciuto il lavoro di Casey quando ha affrontato l'eredità di
ALAN MOORE come scrittore dei
WILDCATS, un pò perchè qualche tempo fa mi contattò (come raccontai
QUI) per diventare il disegnatore della sua versione degli
YOUNGBLOOD dopo che lo stregone di Northampton le aveva stravolte.

WATCHMEN.
...during this weeks I started working on a new project for
IMAGE publishing.
It's a massive superheroes series created and written by
JOE CASEY, and drawn by me.
This project is still TOP SECRET and beyond doubt it's one of the most complex work 've ever done.
In the weeks before the announcement of the book, instead to post sketches and pages (damn secrecy!!!) I was thinking to make a journal of the work in progress!
The story is narratively and visually on several layers, and it has its roots in the american superhero comic books: from the beginning to as it is now!
You can't do a book like that without a strong background.
Where could I start?
Instead of starting my studies in a chronological way I prefered to start with a seminal piece of work and doubtless one of the most complex (and in this moment one of the most controversial).
My choice was also dictated from several reasons. 'coz the first time I read Joe Casey's book was when he faced
ALAN MOORE 's legacy on
WILDCATS, and 'coz some time ago he sent me an e-mail, because he wanted me on his
YOUNGBLOOD 's book, (like I wrote
HERE) years after their last incarnation done by the Northampton's wizard!
